Lecture 5 - cree hunters of mistassini (nfb) Sam was alone on his land so invited other families. Sam cuts the bear into pieces, smokes it and makes if into soup. Need to split firewood, prepare skins, keep camp running smoothly. Families live in tents, but need to build winter lodge. This is the first year they"ve taken a chainsaw to the camp. Indians have only taken what have helped them in the bush. Only best trees are selected for the lodge. Some of them are over 200 miles away. Everyone has place in scheme of daily life. Gathered moss from forest to insulate lodge in winter. No windows in lodge, but trim logs to reflect light from roof. 16 people will live in lodge so all have part in building it. Hunters have to locate animals before winter arrives. Sam: i"ve been hunting on this land for 30 years.
