WSTA03H3 Lecture 11: Reading Notes--Transnational Feminism (Week 11)
Document Summary
Applies the socialist feminist analysis of gender, class, racial and ethnic inequality: in the third-world, global south, post colonial and nonindustrial societies and developing countries in latin america, africa, and asia. With globalization everything is circulated and everything is gendered: men for agricultural work, women for domestic and care work. Transnational feminists use theories of underdevelopment and development to analyze the position of women in the global economy: emphasis is on newly industrializing countries. Global economy links wealthy countries whose economies focus on service, information and finances with manufacturing sites and the sources of raw materials in poorer countries. The gendered division of labor in developing countries is the outcome of centuries of european and american economic exploitation and cultural imperialism. Since the end of colonialism many developing nations have sought financial capital and business investments from wealthier european and north.
