Movie ratings are based on sex and violence. A lot of sex and violence is a good predictor of box office sales. There are cut offs to how much these two things can be in a movie. Many people go to g and r movies so the lowest amount of sex and violence and the highest amount. Governments regulating content and deciding what goes in is troubling so media democracies do the ratings and police themselves. Not only mpaa rates but also a website called kids-in-mind created by parents for parents who don"t reall(cid:455) trust the mpaa.
