Unformed, large, wide ranging issues that bring some kind of concern or awareness to the minds of a social scientist. Introduction: introduce this problem, and develop it into research question. What type of material to include in literature review: Publicly produced knowledge (know what the source is) Description, summary and evaluation of these works in relation to our research problem (must always relate back to our research problem) Tell the reader you know where your research fits (shouldn"t miss key studies) Sematic review of the literature (not going to present ideas article by article, instead look for common themes, models, concepts and organize it around those concepts)
