SOCB05H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Research Question, Dependent And Independent Variables, Job Satisfaction
Document Summary
Embed your research question and findings into the existing literature. 1: help with defining key concepts, focus your research topic into a research question, ensure you do not duplicate a pre-existing study. When we start our research interests tend to be: unclear and unfocused -> needs to be unpacked. Examine the literature on your topic, talk to your ta/professor/liberian. Task: identify relevant factors, select one, leave the rest behind. Tells us about an identifiable question where previous answers were unclear between concepts. Can be empirically tested (either supported or falsified) Common in: quantitative research: research objective. A list of information or objectives we seek in our study. A hypothesis is a sentence that tells us about a relationship between two concepts. Concept: an idea or a symbol that stands for something, or that represents a class of things or a general categorization of an impression of something, must be clearly defined (conceptualized) at the outset of the study.
