Document Summary

A state of complete physical, mental and social well being. This is defined by the world health organization. This definition suggest that health is the result of a complex interaction between physical, mental, and social factors. Life expectancy is the average lifespan of a newborn, and is an indicator of the overall health of a country. Life expectancy rates can fall because of famine, war, disease, and overall poor health and can rise when health and welfare programs are initiated. Rule: the higher the life expectancy, the healthier population. Between 1920 and 2009, average life expectancy at birth rose in canada from 58. 8 to. 78. 8 years for males and 60. 6-83. 3 years for females. The gap between the sexes is partly related to differences in lifestyle. Men tend to engage in more risk-tasking behaviour that could result in injury or death. This is the diverse interactions between health and social factors.
