Helping us to be members of society and fit into social norms. Sit into rows, listen to the professor, etc. Earliest example -> when settlers first started coming to canada, residential schools. Organic education: taught within the community, learned to function in their groups and survive. Judged the indigenous people of negative thing and wanted to teach them to be white western people. Taught them to not be indigenous or practice their culture. Told them that their children will be taught to read and write. But they will taught not to practice their nature rituals, language, or clothing. Taught them how white europeans considered to be civilized. How to be part of society, not just the subject matter you are learning. Golden dustpan award for classroom that was the cleanest.
