Document Summary

Wanted to see if five vs. nine month olds discriminate speech sounds "pa" from "ba" Stimulus of a face repeatedly saying one of the sounds, checked how long they looked at it, then measured the amount of time looking at it. Always keep data in excel it is easier to deal with. Spss doesn"t like spaces in variable names, so use underscore between words. Analyse --> descriptive statistics --> descriptives --> select all --> click okay. Negative correlation means that as age increases, looking decreases. Significance: cutoff value for significance is 0. 05, anything less is statistically significant --> reliable relationship is present, this is your p value, ex. 0. 349 is not significant because it is bigger than 0. 05 so there is no statistical significance between age and looking behaviour: even tho there is a negative correlation, it is not significant. But we wanted to see difference between pa and ba. Anaylse --> compare means --> independent samples t-test.
