Caffeine: psychostimulant compound; member of xanthine chemical class: caffeine is a methylated xanthine, approximately 90 percent of americans consume caffeine on a regular basis, caffeine and related compounds in plants. Found in kola nuts, cocoa tree nuts, and coffee beans: caffeine pharmacokinetics. Peak plasma caffeine levels are reached after two hours.
