Instrumental aggression begins with competition or the desire for some object or status possessed by another person. It harms the recipient or is intended to do so: all violent behavior is aggressive behavior but not all aggressive behavior is violent. Psychoanalytical/psychodynamic viewpoint: psychodynamic or hydraulic model since it bears a close resemblance to pressure buildup in a container. Lorenz believed that aggression is an inherited instinct of both humans and animals: the tendency to attack space violators is referred to as territoriality.
