PSYC23H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Dentate Gyrus, Middle Temporal Gyrus, Temporal Lobe
Document Summary
It is difficult to assess a group of individuals who have the same type of damage. Development of a primate model results in 2 issues, behavioural and anatomical. Behavioural task needs to require memory of a specific event at a specific time. The task that has been developed is called the delayed non-matching sample task (dnms). In dnms, they have monkeys with medial temporal lobe damage and provide him with a sample of food found under an object. They must choose the object that is new (nonmatching) to find the food. These monkeys have difficulty forming new memories and subsequently perform poorly on the task. If we change the time period and make it longer, the monkey can no longer do the task properly. The 1-9 task is a good task to determine declarative memory. Compared to other systems, it easier for us to understand. The dentate gyrus and ca areas (1-4) are the 2 main regions of the hippocampus.
