Independent: the individual self has a boundary which is indicated through solid line, meaning that the self won"t change due to diff social context. X indicates the person"s traits: key boundary is b/w the self and non self. X are not distinct because there is intersection with others: dotted lines - identities are fluid, and identity can change, key boundary - ingroup is lot more stable. Japanese participants were highly critical of themselves, regardless of the mirror condition.
