In today"s global world, it is common for people to. Have ties to individuals whose nationality is different. Interaction and integration among people and institutions of different nations. Boundaries of a society are not defined spatially, but exists in terms of the connectedness between people. When parents are from two distinctly different cultures: children are exposed to aspects of both cultures, they develop multicultural identities, existence of multiple psycho-cultural systems of representations. Immigration/emigration steady increase in immigration followed by a small dip (ww1) & a spike (european immigrants: a huge dip followed (ww2) & a huge growth again. Parents may continue to maintain cultural practices at home. Peers & education system transmit beliefs/values of new culture. Role reversal when children provide parents with info about ways of new culture. Hard on parents to surrender power in order to learn from children. Hard on children as cultural intermediaries, while still being socialized by parents.
