Eexposure to hostile sexism may promote efforts to reduce gender-based inequality, whereas exposure to benevolent sexism undermines engagement in actions intended to increase gender equality. It can be engaged in by a single individual as long it is intended to serve group rather than individual interests. It provides a positive representation of women as a group.
