Document Summary

Stereotype threat when people find themselves in a situation where they feel at risk of conforming to stereotypes about their group. Working memory immediate memory for temporarily holding information. Dual processing tasks hold words in mind, at the same time you are doing another task. Stereotype threat can cause women to do worse in math. Men and women take tests in 3 person groups: Women of minority group: [2 male vs. 1 female] Added mixed-majority condition: [1 male vs. 2 female] Women perform worse when they were in the minority, than when they were in same sex group. Also, the more males that are there, the worse the female performs. Men performed the same in all groups. It"s about being outnumbered, and about having a stereotype for your minority: i. e. : in a verbal test where women were in a minority, they did not perform worse- but this is because there is no negative stereotype toward women being social.
