PSYB51H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Vitreous Body, Aqueous Humour, Refraction
Document Summary
Chapter 2 the first steps in vision: from light to neural signals. Treat light as being made up of waves when it moves around the world. Treat light as being made up of photons when it is absorbed. Absorb: to take something such as light, noise or energy and not transmit it at all. Scatter/ diffracted: to disperse something such as light, in an irregular fashion. Reflected: to redirect something that strikes a surface eg) (light/sound/heat), usually back towards its point of origin. Most of the light striking a dark surface is absorbed. Light that is neither reflected nor absorbed by the surface is transmitted through the surface. Transmit: to convey something from one place or thing to another. Eg. if we are gazing at a star through our window, as the light travels from air into the glass, some of the light rays will be bent or refracted, as it is transmitted.
