Document Summary
Refracted: energy that is altered as it passes into another medium. For example: stick a pencil into a glass and it will look like it is broken. Light is refracted because the density of the air and the water are different, like is changing direction. Lenses within our eyes allow us to refract light. Diffracted: bent, or having waves that are spread out (examples: waves of sound or light, as they encounter an obstacle or pass through a narrow aperture spread out). Transmitted: convey light from one place to another through a transparent medium. The filter allows certain light to pass and other things cannot pass. Reflected: energy that is redirected when it strikes a surface. Light can be absorbed, diffracted, reflected, transmitted or refracted. Absorbed: light or any kind of energy that is taken up and transformed to other forms of energy.
