PSYB45H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Reinforcement, Exposure Therapy
Document Summary
Differential reinforcement: applying reinforcement to a correct response but no reinforcement to an incorrect response. In classroom acting out behaviour, might tell that student that if she only gets out of seat only 2 times in 1 hour she gets a reinforcer. Is a desirable behaviour but it needs to be spaced out. For example student that"s really eager and always answers teacher"s questions then spaced-responding drl. Explain to student that need to answer question every 15 mins and then gets reinforcer. Response we like but we want to space it out more. If dro behaviour does occur, so no getting out of seat for example, then clock starts over only how long to remain seated in order to get reinforcer. Punishment: if in a given situation a person engages in a behaviour that is followed by a punisher then the person is less likely to do the same thing in a similar situation.
