In order to communicate an effective lecture, a prof needs to keep ideas in their mind to communicate to their students effectively. Working memory is a construct for being able to do this. In attention we have a ton of information arriving at our senses and we have to manage irrelevant information or distractions so that we can obtain a goal. Your professor needs to keep distractions about their personal life behind, so that they can focus on delivering a lecture: we need to control our behavior at times.
