To make it moral: has to be internally motivated (not extrinsic), independent from self- interest (should be in direct opposition) Behavioural measures: production of prosocial behaviours and resistance to temptation (refrain from engaging bad behaviours) -> forbidden toys test. Parke 1967: 6 7 yr olds (forbidden toys test) 3 conditions: reachable distance from sitting position, stand up, move towards. All children are equally tempted, boys more than girls though. Guilt projective test: story told and asked to see how the character feels. Criticism: not a direct measure of emotion (may be just social desirability) 1988 looked at empathy from preschoolers and 2nd grade. Showed 3 films: evoke emotions fear and sadness. Results: children can empathize with the character of film, also able to examine multiple methods that have converging results. Cognition (morality) : knowledge of ethical rules and moral judgements.
