Document Summary

Social psychology focuses on how individuals" thoughts, feelings and behaviours are affected by social situations while personality psychology focuses on how differences between individuals influences thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Sociology focuses on behaviour of groups and not individuals. Power of the situation: situations can often determine behaviour despite individual differences. Stanley milgram in 1963 did a famous study where he had a teacher, learner, and experimenter. The teacher was instructed to administer shocks from. 15 to 450 volts to the learner each time he made an error. Shocks went from slight shock through xxx and increased by 15 volt intervals. The teacher was given a 45v shock each time a shock is administered to indicate the pain of the shock, however the learner wouldn"t be shocked. The teacher would be told by the experimenter to continue shocking despite any reaction by learner. The teacher went to extremes to conform to authority commands.
