Aggression: any behavior aimed at causing either physical or psychological pain. Hostile aggression: aggression in which causing pain or harm is the only goal, the end you"re trying to achieve is making the other feel emotional or physical pain. Instrumental aggression: aggression in which the pain or harm caused is a means to some other goal. Robbing a bank(in it for the money), winning a sport (may need to hurt popular on the other team), self-defense. The exact same behaviour could b e either of the two, depending on what the person who does it is. Gossiping you to hurt you and climbing the social hierarchy.
