PSYB01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Institute Of Directors, Pseudoscience, Scientific Method
Document Summary
: how is racisim defined, how was it found, what are its impacts, in order to find better info, we need to know how digest, understand, interpret, and crtique the research to find out if its valid. If going to do graduate school, or making a thesis, we need to know a lot of research methods. Prediction should be made, then tested: scientific-sounding language, endorsement by authority figure (or celebrity, conspiracies or hidden truths, explains away disconfirming data. This gives it the illusion of scientific validity, increasing its credibility in the eyes of those unfamiliar. What happens, how often, where, under what circumstances, etc: prediction of behaviours. What will (within a range of probability) happen under certain conditions. Temporal precedence (a happens before b) covariation (a varies along with b) no other alternative explanations: explanation of behaviour. For some research its unethical to do experiments/corelatiom. If a changes, and b is not change, then there is no relationship.
