Document Summary

It is difficult to put an exact definition to categorize it: we lump symptoms together that are similar and call it a disorder. Schizophrenia is characterized distortions of thought, perception, and emotion; bizarre behaviour; and social withdrawal. Split mind means a mind that leaves reality. It affects 1% of people in canada (which is huge every 1/100) Age of onset & hospitalization (see figure below) More people are institutionalized with schizophrenia than any other disorder: the onset is late adolescence/ early adulthood, tends to trike men earlier and more severe, specific groups have higher prevalence: low ses, etc. Things that are there that were not there previously. The removal of things ex: emotion deficit does not experience many emotions. Inappropriate or disorganized speech or behaviour - ex: word salad the words are random and the sentences do not have meaning.
