Stress any circumstance that threatens or is perceived as a threat to one"s well being. Major stressors: life changing decision: e. g. Routine hassles: things in life that we all experience that cause us mild stress: e. g. Cognitive appraisal: the perception of a stressor (or hassle) ~ the way that you determine how stressful something is. Sympathetic nervous system (during stress: adrenaline hormone is secreted, which causes increase in heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar, sweating. It also causes digestion to slow, and decreased immunity. Parasympathetic nervous system (during relaxation: normal system when you are not stressed, is complete opposite of what happens when your sympathetic nervous. Major long term stress can cause health problems. There are mechanisms we can use to cope with stressors. Depends on how we perceive the stress (stress is psychological: e. g. : before a date, one person may be very excited, and one person may be very stressed out.
