Children: no ability to do anything without help - aren"t mobile, can"t talk. Require care (caregiver very important, can"t survive without caregivers) o. Animal kingdom: can walk, can fight, can run. Sperm and egg to bundle of cells to infant to adulthood. Cross-sectional study: different groups compared at one time (ex: group a has 20 year olds, group b has 50 year olds, group c has 80 year olds) Problem: covert affects - differences among groups might not be age related. Ex: hippy generation have less memory and therefore affects memory study. Longitudinal study: same group compared at different times. Ex: group a at age 20, at age 50 and at age 80. Cons: slow, stop showing up at study, attrition, people die, incomplete experiment, no result over long period of time. Pros: same person, significant finding because of time. Development still happening while inside mother o o o o o o o.
