PSYA01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Phonics, Cognitive Neuroscience, Naturalistic Observation
Document Summary
1960"s mass usage of computers, helped revolutionize science and created a way to think about things prior to computers became a metaphor (holds memory like our brain and has processes) Software engineers/ computer programmers (take info, analyze it, output it etc) cognitive psych. Cognitive neuroscience: tying process of cognitive psych in with brain. Mri: way to look at the brain structure without cracking skull open (through x-ray images 3d) psychology is very young and the answers about it are not very concrete. Operational definition vague idea of an experiment to specific experiment you can run. Validity how well you thought your operational definition would do and how it did. Converging evidence: different people test same hypothesis in different ways and getting the same result. Confound when 2 variables changed their state at the same time (sharks attack human/ is it presence of cage or humans?)
