Document Summary
Human body can be thought of in material terms (machine) Body is based on wiring neural tissue (where signals begin and end) Early mid 1800"s ablation research: remove/destroy a part of the brain (of animals) to see what it would effect. If they removed back of brain animal was (blind), moved part of brain (headphones/one ear to another) they would show motor/sensation problems. The brain had localized function (specific parts did specific things) Fritz and higtz introduced stimulation studies: dropped wires in the brain and sent an electrical current and analyzed what happened. Hermann von helmholtz wanted to measure how fast information travelled through our neural tissue and he did it through measuring (# of people / neural tissue) Ernst weber psychophysicist saw our ability to sense difference in weight, light, sound the fraction stayed the same (100g on one side of hand and 10g on the other then switched over still felt same difference)
