When babies babble" they babble in the language that they hear (english) No" is usually the first word because you hear it most often -> you are starting to impose rules on a child and so babies don"t like it. By 7-8 months they can follow commands or answer questions. 10 months they learn to point to what they want. Babies who hear more vocabular may become more curious and try to use it/question what it means. Vocabulary intake my have financial, familial, etc. reasons. Critical periods of the brain -> when the brain is very ready to learn something. Sensory motor development in children, for example (0-1 year) -> during this time they are focused on learning how to use the body they have been given and to pay attention to the sensory information they are being given. Language and thought are distinct from each other. For many of us, our thoughts are verbally encoded.
