PSYA01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Central Serous Retinopathy, Tabula Rasa, Startle Response
Document Summary
John locke -> tabula rasa -> somehow the world forms how we become. Environment and its impact on us (skinner argued that it did) After freud, behaviourism was restricted to things measurable (stimuli, response, connection between the two) Called behaviourism because the responses we care about are those we can see, watch and measure. What didn"t happen was that we don"t talk about what is going on in the subject"s mind (barrier in psychology after freud) Unconditioned stimuli -> response that our body isn"t used to and that our body reacts naturally to (e. g. food) Unconditioned response -> pre-wired genetic behaviour that we haven"t learned and our body acts automatically (e. g. when you touch food to a mouth it starts the digestive system) The occurrence of some novel stimulus in the environment (us) tends to lead to a startle response (ur)
