Pain areas in the brain can be stimulated during dreams, showing that we can feel pain during dreams. Feeling sympathy for other people is linked to the mirror neurons in our brain -> our brains literally put ourselves in another person"s situation. Psychopaths have very good theory of mind (understanding how people react to things and using it to manipulate them) but very little empathy. We all fall on a continuum of how empathetic we are. Hypnotic induction almost always begins with progressive relaxation. Hypnosis -> resulting state of deep relaxation that often makes a client open to suggestion and capable of experiencing rich imagery. Originally used to try and find answers to problems that weren"t physical (freud and mesmer) Therapists can use hypnosis to find associations between things or to walk through positive mental experiences that can half an affect after the session finishes.
