PSYA01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Night Terror, Sleep Sex, Parasomnia
Document Summary
For different kinds of animals, you have to change the rouge test -> they all respond to different places e. g. dolphins on their backs. Elephants passed the test and dogs did not. Just because an animal doesn"t pass the test doesn"t mean that the animal isn"t self aware. 2-3 years old is where children start to pass the rouge test. When the human has damage to hippocampus, they can no longer retain memories. Active/goal driven unconscious -> it is almost as if your unconscious has its own goals. Freud may say that your unconscious is protecting your conscious from its suppressed urges. Many psychologists believe in unconscious processing, but not in the freudian sense. We connect them more to habitual and procedural learning: formed by repetition (example: you don"t remember locking the door because its been fit into your schedule so many times) This is similar to the unconscious; once the triggering occurs, the method unleashes.
