PSYA01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Opponent Process, Occipital Lobe, Retina
Document Summary
Vision: sensation (occipital lobe and association cortex, which is near occipital lobe) Sensation -> raw data (bottom up information e. g. the world coming at us) Perception -> our interpretation of the raw data (top down information) Recognition has a large role to play in perception. We see the world through small keyholes that our sensory apparatus is able to detect. There are limits to sensation (e. g. thermal, echolocation) We are only able to see a small portion of visible light (without apparatus) We actually have a pretty dull sensory system; dogs can get a history from the smell of a room, rattlesnakes can sense footsteps on the earth, sharks can detect electrical stimulation that bodies release. Conclusion: we can only sense a little bit of the world. Iris - the colored part of your eye it is actually a muscle that adjusts the size of the pupil.
