Document Summary

Lecture 7 (chapter 3): neurons and the nervous system. Main body parts of the nervous system: the brain and spinal cord. Keep in mind that whenever we are referring to the body in the context of the ns, we are referring to the organs and tissues. These interneurons then send excitatory signals to the motor neurons to retract the hand immediately. Let each arrow indicate where the message is being sent (>) Signal pathway: sensory neuron (sends excitatory message) > interneurons (sends excitatory message) > spinal cord (or brain: carrying a hot casserole dish: say you have put a lot of effort into making this dish. Neurons: think of these cells as carriers for passing along signals. Signals are input on the dendritic end of the neuron and the cell can either do nothing or pass along the message to all the other cells that are connected to this neuron at the axon terminal end.
