Document Summary
The cerebral cortex is the place where high-level perception of the world occurs, and is also the place where controlled motor activities originate. In this sense, it is the place where all our controlled interactions with the external world occur (outside of the brain) This contrasts with a number of more basic brain regions which are more devoted to monitoring and controlling internal behaviours and automatic responses to external stimuli. Boca"s area: the production of language example of localization of function meaning that the specific part of the brain seems to serve a very specific function: the brain has a lot of relative localized bits. Humans have the largest brain to body ratio. The cortex is wrinkled because you can get more surface area in brain in a smaller area (example squirrel brain is flat vs. human brain is wrinkled) You don"t want skulls to be to big because mother"s will die during pregnancy and because they"re too heavy.
