Document Summary

Did nothing like what was done before. Observer of human behaviour: interested in abnormal human behaviour, how did people get disordered thinking. Followed the medical model: thinking of symptoms as something that has a true cause like a virus, figuring out how to fix it, freud thought that mental illnesses had an underlying cause, defense mechanisms. If you see something, it will mess you up for the rest of your life. Scientists didn"t like it because: you cant test it. Freud was focused on sex and aggression: it was controversial because people weren"t used to talking about it. Clinical psychology used to not be very scientific. To the general public, people perceive psychologists as people like freud. Gestalt psychology: understanding laws of perception. Behaviorism: objective measurement of human behaviour. What they do and how they behave. Measuring over time with responses to certain stimuli. During darwin and mendel, there was a big impact on genetics.
