Psya01 lecture 6 (chapter 2) - experimentation: finding the cause. There is a hypothesis that states that sharks do not want to eat humans but instead they want to eat metal cages. Attacking the metal cage brings out their aggressive behaviour because of the electrical signals coming from the cage. These electrical signals send shocks to a part of the shark called, ampullae of lorenzini, which detects the electrical current. It helps them detect what they want to eat, vs. what they don"t. Experiment: is when you compare the behaviour of two or more conditions. For example, if we could control the current of the metal cage, we could determine whether the shark became aggressive if the current was turned on when compared to how the shark behaved when the current is off. Independent variable: the variable that was changed to create the difference of the conditions. It is the variable that we have control over and can be manipulated.
