Recall from last week: we discussed the analysis of knowledge. In goldman"s causal theory, different ways of obtaining knowledge came up in discussion. For example: (1) perception/sensation (vision, hearing, taste, touch, smell) example of knowledge gained via perception: i know that watermelon is sweet because i"ve tasted watermelon. (2) memory. Example of knowledge via memory: i know that everest is the tallest mountain in the world because i remember it. (3) testimony. Example of knowledge via testimony: i know that my sister likes the taste of peanut butter because she told me so. So, we lack certainty which according to locke, is key to obtaining knowledge. Even though we don"t have knowledge from testimony, we can still be more or less doubtful of it. Do they have any perceptual things that would make them very unreliable, for instance, are they unknowingly colour blind: the purpose they have in supplying their report.
