PHLB09H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Thought Experiment, Breast Cancer, Universal Health Care
Document Summary
Thinks that voluntary active euthanasia should be allowed. Autonomy of patient, should be able to control death, Says there"s no difference btw killing and letting die. Current policy says passive euthanasia is ok, but active is wrong. Dying person with cancer, treatment is withheld so they can die, but death can be long and painful. Both passive and active euthanasia have the same intension, so active euthanasia should be allowed. Against legalization of physician assisted suicide- policy perspective. Understands why people would want physician assisted suicide. Can be a threat to rights and welfare of many people. If law is made to legalize it, it would too hard to regulate/control, prone to abuses. If u don"t legalize passive euthanasia, you would forcing treatments on people and undermine their autonomy but not legalizing pas or vac doesn"t violate autonomy. Whether legalize physician assisted death and voluntary active euthanasia or not, people will be suffering either way.
