Document Summary
Killing involves taking some actions causing death. Letting die involves refraining from some action causing death (i. e. don"t throw life jacket when can) Set up: limitations to the duty not to kill. The duty not to kill can be overridden in several circumstances. Unavoidable killings - jump in front of train. We may only kill in self defense if killing is necessary . Third party defense is permitted where self defense is permitted. Killing in self defense is permitted when our life is in danger and killing is necessary means to our survival. The right to self denese permits killing whether or not we are facing an aggressor or an innocent threat. Everyone can survive on the lifeboat until rescue - present (well-equipped) The lifeboat can only support some of the stranded people - future (under-equipped) Person is sick needs extra water - if they drink someone else will die. Insufficient water for everyone to survive - fair procedure.
