Document Summary

Lecture 6: van inwagen : the problem of evil: We"ve looked at theistic arguments and agnostics arguments. Now we will look into an argument for atheism. Not that religious beliefs lack rational support, but they are positively irrational . Humans always try to be rational in our lives. One could argue we aren"t with the choices we make. Peter van inwagen (1942 - present): american philosopher, notre dame, religious. Think god is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent and evil exists however this is inconsistent. Not all 4 aspects can be true at he the same time, but the theologic must admit all. How can one listen to stories like this and say that evil does not exist? . The question now becomes is there another option? . That he is omnipotent means that he can do anything that doesn"t involve an intrinsic impossibility .
