Document Summary

The human kidney: anatomy, functions, micturition i. e. urination the desert rat osmotic and ionic regulation in freshwater osmotic and ionic regulation in saltwater (teleosts) osmotic and ionic regulation in saltwater (elasmobranches) bird salt glands. Diabetes = overwhelming amounts of blood glucose. Functions in ionic and osmotic regulation: regulation of plasma ionic composition, regulation of plasma osmolarity. Refers to osmotic pressure: regulation of plasma volume. Regulation of ions and osmolarity affects plasma volume. There are three body fluid compartments: blood plasma (5%, tissue fluid (15%, cytoplasm (40$) Recognise regulation of blood and osmotic fluid as one in the same: intracellular fluid. Different volumes of osmolarity than the extracellular fluid and blood plasma. Cells have their own mechanisms to keep ion and osmotic levels constant: extracellular (interstitial) fluid, blood plasma. 9 osmolarity of body tissues and fresh / sea water. Osmosis: water molecules move across a selectively permeable membrane from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration.
