Document Summary

There is a positive linear relationship b/w a high goal & task performance. Goal affects satisfaction as it serves as a standard for evaluating ones performance. A higher goal requires higher performance for a person to experience positive effects compared to lower goal commitment. 2 factors that affect the goals a person chooses: 1. the importance of the goal to the individual. 1. self-efficacy: self-confidence that the goal is attainable. Mediators (how) of goal setting are : choice, effort, persistence & strategy. Moderators (affect) : ability, goal commitment, feedback, task complexity & situational factors. Framework for understanding motivation in the workplace based on goal theory. Hpc states that an employee"s motivation is affected by specific challenges & demands such as high goals: ex: ppl with low self-efficiacy unlikely to commit to high goal where opposite is true for those w. high self-efficiacy.
