MDSD11H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Eurocentrism
Document Summary
The article chosen have narratives because they allow for individuals to share their history, cultures, etc as opposed to someone else to determine that for them. Professor"s example: if i was a principal at 24, i would"ve believed that my world view was standard and my experiences were generalizable to the greater community. However, i realize now that i was blinded to the realities for many people. The white eurocentric worldview is not better than others. We need to be open to hearing, seeking out, and listening to narratives. This is how these identities are constructed by the dominant powers and it also places value on what cultures and histories are more valuable than others. As a school leader, you need to challenge that and how people are defined based on race, skin color, religion, gender, class, sexual orientation, etc. This are being judged and evaluated so that certain identities do not feel safe to be who they are.
