MDSB03H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Food Porn, Ice Cream, Lard
Document Summary
There are studios & food stylists to make food look good. Paint strippers, tweezers, needles, & scissors are used. Eat it with your eyes alone since it excites your stomach. Food is always animated, in movement & motion (example: picking up food with a spoon to see gooey cheese) Overpromising - makes food look better than what is sold in a restaurant or what consumers can ever make at home. High tech industry makes food look appetizing but it cannot be eaten. Ingredients sink to bottom & liquid on top. Marbles are put on bottom to make ingredients float. Ice cream melts so lard is used instead. Smooth coating: coating food with icing & jello, for magazine pictures to hide crease/crack flaws. Idealized food which is magical cannot be made/eaten by readers because they eat real food. Accept it as if it were common sense. Consumers accept flawed ideas as common sense.
