LINA02H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Picornavirus, Rna Virus, Togaviridae
Document Summary
They have single stranded + sense rna genomes; except they don"t follow the same pathway than the other + strand rna virus. Package a virus-coded reverse transcriptase with their genome. Reverse transcriptase = an rna-dependent dna polymerase; produces the double stranded rna copy after it enters the cell. Making rna genome and converting it to a double stranded dna once they make it, the integrate it into the cellular genomes. + strand rna ds dna (inserted to cellular genome) mrna viral genome. The proteins are cleaved, some of these are used to create a complimentary (-) strand. Need a rna-dependent rna polymerase (not provided from the host cell). Positive-strand rna genomes: cucumber mosaic virus, picornavirus, togavirus, coronavirus. Entry; depending on the picornavirus they can use both: receptor-mediated endocytosis, conformational change at cell surface upon receptor binding, ex. Vp1, vp2, vp3, vp4 = p1; capsid proteins that code for the proteins that form capsid shell.
