Formal associated with a prescriptivist approach (correct way of speaking ) other language (non-standard) is often seen as chaotic, not rule governed linguists (not sociolinguists) are often seeking answers to a specific question. Slang: lexicon that are new or has new meaning non-standard, informal language associated with younger people. Non linguists have the tendency to use slang in reference to any non standard language form these are actually dialects. Most dialects have their own slang usually. Accent: phonetics and phonology pronunciation only regional distinctions create different accents. Variety: what many sociolinguists call a subset of language. Dialect: usually a regional subset of a language sometimes used to mean variety.
