Office hours: wednesdays 11:00am 12:00pm (exceptions on september 12, September 26, and november 7) and thursdays 8:00-9:00am (except for september: up to and including december 3rd. Tutorial times: tuesdays at 9:00am, 10:00am, 2:00pm, 3:00pm, and 5:00pm. This course will explore bio-social aspects of health and development in children. Drawing on multi-disciplinary research, this course will survey several topics related to child health and development. Topics for discussion include genetics and development, growth and development, the immune system, measures of child health and cognitive development, determinants of child health, nutrition during early years, childhood diseases, and the economic aspects of child health and development. In addition, this course will survey special issues in global child health in developing countries, such as poverty, famine, and the hiv epidemic. The first section provides an overview of concepts related to child health and development.
