Physical environment: man-made built environment including land use and transportation, street design, other features of urban design and public spaces and access to resources such as healthy foods and recreational opportunities. Social environment: degree and nature of social connections between neighbors, the presence of social norms, levels of safety and violence, and various features of the social organization of places. Anthropocene (human epoch/ human influence: first proposed by paul crutzen, atmospheric chemist and nobel laureate, based on global evidence that earth systems (atmospheric, geologic, etc. ) are altered by humans. Walkable distances to basic services can result in people being aware of their surrounding environment and physical activity levels. Epidemiology: study and analysis of patterns, causes, effects of health and disease conditions in defined population. No single factors responsible for disease and illness, but interactions of many factors. It is the health of human civilization and state of natural systems on which it depends.
