Lifecycle nutrition: issues related to weight management & physical. Most of the wight gain during pregnancy is lost at birth. Maternal fat stores re required to fuel lactation. There are risks to mother and baby if too little or too much weight gain. => weight loss is not recommended during pregnancy. => weight gain should be kept to a minimum during pregnancy. Energy needs during pregnancy: pregnancy: three trimesters. 3rd: 27-40 weeks: additional energy needs during pregnancy: 350-450 kcal in the last two trimesters (include an extra 2-3 food guide servings to get more calories) (s-10) Folate during pregnancy: there is a r/l b/t lack of folic acid and neural tube defects (ntds). In 1990s, health canada and other organizations advised women who could become pregnant to get at least 400 h(hecto )g folic acid daily to prevent ntds.
